Visit of Lord Lieutenant of Bristol - 28th October 2004

On 26 October 2004 Jay Tidmarsh, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Bristol (right), was the guest of The Probus Club of Bristol for lunch at Ashton Court Mansion . Although the Club was formed in 1971 this was the first time a Lord Lieutenant had visited the Club. Jay Tidmarsh was welcomed by Dr George Reah, Chairman, (centre) who also welcomed visitors from The Rotary Club of Bristol, led by their President John Pearce (left).

After lunch some 80 members, guests and visitors listened to an excellent talk by Alec Lewis on “Pleasure Steamers of the Bristol Channel ”. The talk provided a fascinating insight into the White Funnel Line and the history behind the steamers Waverly and Balmoral which still operate in the Bristol Channel .
