On 22nd July, Don Jones, a club member and past chairman (2006-7) gave an interesting talk on Bristol's involvement in the slave trade. Clearly billed as 'not an apologia', Don's talk concentrated on the historic facts, describing the connection with the 'great and good' of Bristol at that time..
As part of the talk, we heard about the ship construction and loading. Of particular interest was the hazard from prolonged stays in tropical harbours, when the ship hulls were prone to severe damage from Teredo worms. The photograph alongside shows a section from a hull, which Don passed round for inspection
